The Washington Post

I interned with The Post’s emerging news products team in June 2018. I curated stories for the national news app, reported and produced newsletters for The Lily, a female-focused news platform, and pitched and wrote copy for Snapchat Discover.

I also reported on Internet culture for The Post’s Style desk and The Lily.

July 20, 2018: Explicitly educational: Erotic fanfiction’s sex-ed appeal to young women

(also ran front-page of Style section) July 30, 2018: Dogs are good boys. But on Twitter, they’re used to make political statements.

Aug. 10, 2018: West Virginia to offer mobile blockchain voting app for overseas voters in November election

My daily duties also consisted of crafting social copy for The Lily's online platforms.

I curated 3-4 sections of The Post's national news app, updating headlines & decks as stories broke:

Frequently curated politics, business & technology, opinions and life & entertainment sections.

Edited and updated headlines for stories, adding interactive elements (photos, videos, graphics) to mobile app.

Pitch stories to distributive platforms, such as Apple News and MSN.

Utilize analytics tools (Chartbeat) and news judgment to organize stories.

I wrote more tile stories than I could count, but above are a few of my favorites. During my time on this team, I became well-versed in translating a thoroughly reported story into a few paragraphs for a predominantly millennial Snapchat audience.
